DAILY DROP CAPS
A drop capital is a a large initial letter that drops below the first line of a paragraph, usually used at the beginning of a section or chapter of a book. They're commonly seen in old, decorative manuscripts, but they're still used today to give emphasis and personality to text. Completed over approximately two months in the Fall of 2017, Daily Drop Caps is collection of (approximately) daily experimentats in illustrative letterforms and typography. It includes thirty different characters, including a full English alphabet and one ligature.

The inspiration for the drop caps is varied, stretching from abstract geometry to illustrated scenes. Some reference architecture, some reference flowers, and some are much more typographical, thinking about line and form instead of how to combine imagery and letters.

The project is currently being expanded into a full gallery website, where the drop caps are paired alongside short pieces of writing that explore the possibilities of typographical arrangements that ultimately form a peculiar and non-sequential narrative focusing on the stories of two people who don't quite fit in with the rest of the world.
